Welcome to Year 6

Our aim in Year 6 is to provide a caring and supportive environment that encourages all children to achieve the very best possible outcomes and use Upper Key Stage 2 to prepare our children for the next stage in their education. Many of our children take part in the autumn term elections held by their peers to decide on House captains and vice captains.

Our residential, includes a range of team building and fun, challenging activities. Additionally, it supports our children to develop resilience and independence (Due to Coronavirus, the government’s advice is for residential visits not to take place at this time). This generally comes after our tests, which are a chance for our children to show how hard they and their teachers have worked while at Chandlers Ridge. Our PE and outdoor education is very important to us and our children receive professional coaching in games, gymnastics, and dance.

Mr Pentney, Mrs Rasab and Mrs Young work closely together to provide a memorable experience for their final year in primary school. Please follow us on twitter to keep up to date with what is happening in our year group – @RidgeYear6

Optional homework is now available online and spellings will be shared weekly.

Here’s looking forward to an enjoyable year!

Our broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum has been extremely carefully created and sequenced as a result of whole school curriculum planning meetings. A general overview, long term plan, is available for your perusal below. This long term planning grid will tell you what topics are being covered in each of the subject areas throughout the year. Should you wish to gain a deeper insight into what these topics contain, information is available on all our subject pages that will inform you further about what skills and knowledge they will gather as they proceed. More detailed knowledge is available on our subject pages as we feel this shows you how knowledge is expanded upon as the children move through school and how skills are progressed from one phase to another.
