Welcome to Year 2

The teachers in Y2 are Mrs Dixon and Mrs Tapner.

Our teaching assistants are Mrs Bennett and Mrs Mottram. Mrs Brooks will also teach one afternoon per week in each class.

In year 2 we study exciting topics including The Great Fire of London, The Titanic, Africa, Lego education, sculpture and many more!

We enjoy learning these topics in a cross-curricular way using visits and special days to enhance our learning.

You might find us exploring the school grounds for natural objects, practising our phonics and spelling patterns, making healthy food, playing instruments and learning new gymnastic and dance routines.

Find out more about the curriculum below.

Be sure to keep up to date with what’s happening by following us on Twitter @Y2CRA. You can support from home by reading with your child three times or more per week and practising weekly spelling lists. These are sent home via ParentMail every half term and are matched to your child’s phonics ability.

We always aim to provide a caring and supportive environment that encourages all children to achieve. We are very much looking forward to an enjoyable year!

Our broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum has been extremely carefully created and sequenced as a result of whole school curriculum planning meetings. A general overview, long term plan, is available for your perusal below. This long term planning grid will tell you what topics are being covered in each of the subject areas throughout the year. Should you wish to gain a deeper insight into what these topics contain, information is available on all our subject pages that will inform you further about what skills and knowledge they will gather as they proceed. More detailed knowledge is available on our subject pages as we feel this shows you how knowledge is expanded upon as the children move through school and how skills are progressed from one phase to another.
