Children may bring a packed lunch in a suitable plastic container with their name clearly marked on the top.
We are a nut free school!
Please note Chandlers Ridge is a NUT FREE School, so any packed lunches should not contain any nuts. Nut allergy is potentially fatal for some children and our school must be a "nut free zone".
Lunches must also not contain sweets. We encourage children to eat healthily and bring a balanced packed lunch which ideally should contain:
- starchy foods – these are bread, rice, potatoes, pasta and others
- protein foods – including meat, fish, eggs, beans and others
- a dairy item – this could be cheese or a yoghurt
- vegetables or salad and a portion of fruit
There is some great guidance on the NHS Live Well website here
. Children who have packed lunches are given water to drink in the same way as children who eat school lunch.
Parents may wish to provide a small carton drink, but please don't send glass bottles or cans of any sort Experience has shown that plastic flasks may break or leak and can be unhygienic. Repeated use of the same branded bottle which originally contained purchased water (e.g. from a supermarket) has been shown to be very unhealthy and even dangerous.
